Terms of use
Kanazora is free and stays free. The terms below say what you can expect from the app and what is expected from you.
What the service is
Kanazora is a web and Android app for learning Japanese, offered free of charge by Mantea Marian, a private individual in Romania. No account is required, no money is charged and nothing is sold. Costs are covered by advertising.
Contact: marian.mantea la yahoo.com.
Using the app
You may use the app freely, for personal study or in a classroom. You may not attempt to take the server down, bypass technical limits, publish content in bulk automatically, or use the app in a way that breaks the law.
Content you publish
Decks you publish to the public list remain yours, but by publishing them you give me the right to store them and show them to other users in the app. You can withdraw a deck at any time by deleting it.
Do not publish: copyrighted material that is not yours (including decks downloaded from others or imported from someone else's Anki file), personal data, or illegal, offensive or misleading content.
Anki files you import are for your personal use. The original author keeps their rights — do not republish them without permission.
Reporting and moderation
Every published deck has a report button. I review reports and remove content that breaks the rules above or the law. You can also flag anything by email, at the contact address.
If a deck of yours is removed and you believe it was a mistake, write to me and I will restore it if I got it wrong.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is". I work to keep translations, readings and explanations correct, but they may contain mistakes, and Japanese often has several correct ways to say the same thing. I do not guarantee you will pass an exam and take no responsibility for decisions made on the basis of the content.
I do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The service may be changed or stopped at any time.
Your progress
Progress lives in your browser. I am not responsible for losing it if you clear your browser data, change phones or uninstall the app. If it matters to you, use the sync feature in Settings.
Copyright in the app
The texts, explanations, exercises and code of the app are mine. Stroke order data comes from the KanjiVG project, used under its licence.
You may take screenshots and use them freely. Do not copy the content wholesale to build a competing site.
Governing law
Romanian law applies. If you are unhappy about something, write to me first — that is usually faster than any other route.
Changes
I may update these terms; the current version carries the date below: 1 August 2026.
